Channappa Teli

Channappa is a self-taught organic farmer. A scientist visiting his farm once exclaimed him as equivalent to several departments in Agriculture University. He was fed up with the chemical farming so explored various ways of growing crops organically. His humble words still rumble in my ears. When I asked him what keeps him motivated to grow organically, he said “I get a great sense of satisfaction of feeding society something good and natural. I want to continue to do this even if I am economically distressed for some time”. He grows sugarcane, banana, ground nuts, chickpeas. He also prepares the jaggery in traditional way from his own produce. He has enriched his soil with continuous application of Jeevamruth. He has experimented with various ways of growing sugarcane, mixed cropping. His devotion to organic farming amazes me
